Room Correction With The TCS
Today, most high quality loudspeaker systems have very good frequency response, often with a deviation of less than 1.5 dB from the ideal frequency response. However, once the loudspeakers are placed in a listening environment, the deviations will increase dramatically. Most often to + /- 10 dB, which means that the dominant frequencies will be 100 times more powerful than the least audible frequencies.
That is not the end of the problems: Even when it is possible to place the speakers in relatively ideal positions, each of the speakers will have dramatically different response. In the lower half of the frequency spectrum the response variations between the individual speakers are most often so great that the speakers might just as well have been made by totally different manufacturers. This problem is compounded even further in a home theater installation with 6 or more speakers. Due to the resonant behavior of listening rooms it is not unusual that 90% of the signal arriving at your ears are resonance's and delayed sound from the room. This is what causes the system to have boom rather than punch.
Our engineers have conducted extensive research in Room Correction Systems since 1991. The system used in TCS mkII is the 4th generation development. The TCS mkII compensates digitally for all room related signal distortion and effectively eliminates coloration's, frequency deviations, etc.
The precision is startling: correction takes place with a frequency resolution of 1 Hz, which means that correction is accurate to below 20 Hz.
